2026 Virginia Redistricting Amendment

Why you should vote NO against the 2026 Redistricting Amendment

The current districting map was developed in 2021 through a non-partisan process by two special masters of the Virginia Supreme Court and accepted by the Court.  CLICK HERE TO READ THE SPECIAL MASTERS MEMO

The current 2021 map keeps communities of interest together:

  • Census Contiguity: continuous territory with political boundaries considered, such as census blocks, counties, cities, and voting districts.

  • Functional Contiguity: current map is drawn so that a representative can travel between any two points within a district without leaving the district.

  • Partisanship: maps are not drawn to unduly favor or disfavor any political party statewide.

  • Nesting: State Senate Districts were nested into Congressional Districts, and House of Delegate Districts into the State Senate Districts. Nesting Districts  ensured that communities of interest have multiple layers of representation.

  • Blue Ridge Mountains: mountains are a natural dividing line for communities of interest, especially given the lack of easy crossings over them. After the Civil War, Republican voting strength in the Shenandoah Valley was diluted by districts which crossed the mountains, especially in the north.

The proposed 2026 map breaks up communities of interest. Look for yourself.
